2026 Cell Phone Use Policy
This policy is intended to promote safety, focus, productivity, and professionalism while on the job.
General Rule
While on the clock, cell phone use is permitted for work-related purposes only. Personal calls, texts, and non-work-related phone use are not allowed during working time and must be limited to approved breaks.
Safety-Critical Rules
No Earbuds or Headphones in the Yard:
For safety reasons, earbuds or headphones are not permitted while working in the yard, around equipment, during loading or unloading, while operating forklifts, or while driving company vehicles.
No Texting or Phone Use While Driving:
Texting, emailing, scrolling, or holding a phone while driving company trucks or hauling trailers is strictly prohibited. Phones may only be used hands-free via Bluetooth for navigation or essential work-related calls.
Situational Awareness:
Employees must remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times when operating equipment, moving trailers, or working near vehicles. Cell phone use must never compromise safety.
Work-Related Use Only
Cell phones may be used during work hours solely for legitimate business purposes such as communication with supervisors, co-workers, dispatch, customers, or other job-related coordination.
Personal calls, personal texting, social media use, streaming, gaming, or similar non-work activities are not permitted while on the clock.
Breaks
Personal phone use is permitted during approved rest and meal breaks, provided it does not interfere with safety, operations, or workplace standards.
Accountability
Failure to follow this policy may result in disciplinary action, including written warnings and further corrective action up to and including termination.
Management reserves the right to modify or further restrict cell phone use if it becomes a safety risk, productivity issue, or operational concern.
