This one is on the list. Ground offset can pass 20 feet, which bends or breaks any road, rail line, pipeline or aqueduct crossing the trace. You can walk up and look at that fault yourself in the SR-14 road cut off Avenue S. The industrial pipeline here is the biggest in the city’s history. The Antelope Valley Commerce Center at Sierra Highway and Avenue M won entitlement on April 8, 2026 for just over 8 million square feet on the east half, which brings the full master plan to about 9.4 million square feet across roughly 510 acres. Single buildings can go as large as 2 million square feet. Tilt-up work on raw ground is hot, dusty and long. Grading, underground, slab, panels, roofing, then months of fit-out. Road and rail work adds more. Caltrans is rebuilding the SR-14 and Palmdale Boulevard interchange at about 39.9 million, from Avenue R to Avenue Q on the freeway and from 5th Street West to Division Street on the boulevard. The city is reconstructing Palmdale Boulevard full depth from 50th Street East to 70th Street East. Avenue N interchange work runs between 17th Street West and 10th Street West. East of town, the plan to widen State Route 138 to four lanes from Avenue T out to Route 18 keeps moving through the 2026 STIP, and Caltrans has a two-lane roundabout proposed at 138 and 106th Street East.
Rail is the long one. The Palmdale Transportation Center is the planned high-speed rail station, and in 2026 the Authority and the High Desert Corridor agency signed a new agreement to coordinate design and station work there. The Antelope Valley Line took a full service shutdown on September 19 and 20, 2026 for track projects. Shutdown weekends stack a large crew into two days of night work, and nothing in this city is open at four in the morning.
