Los Angeles County started cutting fire breaks in the Verdugos in 1923, and more than 25 miles of graded fire road still cross the range. That road network is the staging map. When something starts up there, the camp goes wherever there is a flat lot within a short drive of a fire road gate.
The reference fire is La Tuna, September 2017. It burned 7,194 acres in nine days, shut I-210 between Lowell Avenue and Sunland Boulevard, and forced about 730 homes out, roughly 250 of them in Glendale. By September 3 the assignment carried 1,061 firefighters, 206 engines, nine helicopters, five water tenders and four dozers. A thousand people on a nine day assignment is not a comfort problem. It is a hot water logistics problem, and it is the reason our 8-Station unit is CAL FIRE approved.
January 2025 showed the other half of it. While the Eaton Fire burned 14,021 acres and took 9,418 structures across Altadena, Pasadena and La Canada Flintridge, the city ordered Chevy Chase Canyon and Glenoaks Canyon out and put La Crescenta and Montrose under warning. So the city was an evacuation zone, a reception city and a staging ground in the same week. Then came the recovery phase, which ran for months with debris crews working in ash. Those crews need to get clean before they get in a truck, and that is a health measure, not a courtesy.
Here is what years of fire work taught us about sizing. Demand does not spread across the day. It spikes hard at operational period changeover, twice, and hot water recovery fails before station count does. So on any camp assignment we plan a water delivery and a waste pump on a fixed schedule instead of waiting for someone to report a low tank. On a chaparral slope above houses, nothing drains to the ground, ever. Everything goes to the waste tank and leaves by permitted truck.

Glendale Water and Power is rebuilding the Grayson plant, which has served this city since the early 1940s. Downtown is its own job. The Downtown Glendale Signal and Mobility Improvements Project started in February 2025 and is scheduled to finish in October 2026, hitting Brand Boulevard at Colorado, Doran, Glenoaks, Lexington, Milford, Wilson, Harvard and Artsakh. Lanes close intermittently. A lot of it happens overnight because daytime closures on Brand next to the Americana and the Galleria are brutal. Crews working a downtown core at 2 a.m. have nowhere to go, and a temporary unit tucked into a closed lane segment or a parking structure level solves it.
Then there is the bus rapid transit build. The North Hollywood to Pasadena line broke ground at Glendale City Hall on May 27, 2026, and runs through the city on Glenoaks Boulevard, Central Avenue and Broadway with stations at Glenoaks and Alameda, Glenoaks and Grandview, Central and Lexington, and Broadway and Brand. It is scheduled to finish by the end of 2027 so it can carry riders before the 2028 Olympics. That is a linear job. The crew walks the corridor in segments, so the facilities have to walk with them, which is exactly what a self-contained portable unit is for.

Power and access are the last two. The 8-Station draws power from one 50 amp 220 volt circuit, which most commercial lots in this city can supply or reach with a spider box. Burbank
Straight west over the 134 and around the other side of the Verdugos. Studio lots, post houses and the same wildland edge Glendale has. About 300 Burbank homes were evacuated in the 2017 La Tuna Fire, so the fire staging pattern there mirrors ours.

If the showers are for comfort and retention instead of compliance, the limit is throughput, and one 8-Station moves roughly 200 people a day. The thing to watch is your peak hour. Will a temporary shower trailer work on a site with no power and no water?
