The I-5 North County Enhancements Project is a 679 million dollar job running 14 miles from the Newhall Pass to just south of Parker Road in Castaic. Carpool lanes both directions, a northbound truck lane extension to Calgrove Boulevard, a new southbound truck lane at Highway 14, sound walls and auxiliary lanes. Work started in fall 2021 and substantial completion is targeted for July 2026. Fourteen miles of linear highway work with night paving, rolling closures and staging yards up and down the corridor means crews are never near a building with plumbing.
Then there is everything else. The Vista Canyon bridge in Canyon Country, 780 feet of it, plus a roundabout and the extension of Vista Canyon Boulevard out to the Metrolink station that opened in October 2023. Overnight lows out there drop into the 30s in winter and freeze warnings happen, but this is not a northern climate, so it does not need a full winterization package. What it needs is a service crew that watches the forecast and checks before a cold snap.
Do the units hold up in September heat on an asphalt lot?
That is what the air conditioning is for, and it is in every unit. Summer highs here sit around 90 to 95 and a heat wave pushes well past 100, and the valley holds heat into the evening. A shower room that is hotter than the outside air is a room nobody uses twice, so climate control is not an upgrade on our units. It is standard on all of them.
