Why The Lavatory

Why California planners book our luxury restroom trailers

California packs more kinds of work into one state than most companies ever see. A single week can put one of our trailers at a garden reception in Fullerton, another at a production stage in Los Angeles, a third at a county fair in the Central Valley and a fourth at a logistics site in the Inland Empire. The weather runs from foggy coastal mornings to high desert afternoons that pass 100 degrees, and fall brings red flag days when utilities cut power to whole neighborhoods. A restroom that only works on a mild June Saturday is the wrong restroom for this state.

We built our California program around that range. Every trailer carries its own fresh water tank, a large waste tank and a heat and air unit on a thermostat, so it runs on a paved lot with hookups or on dry grass with none. We stage units from yards in Northern California, Central California and Southern California, which keeps delivery times short for the coast, the valley and the inland counties. Same-day delivery is often possible when a unit is free, and our crews plan longer routes to the mountains, the desert and the far north on a schedule we set with you.

We own every trailer

Every unit on your site comes from our own fleet of over 250 trailers, the largest luxury fleet in the Western U.S. We never hand a job to a broker or a stranger's truck. You deal with one team and one phone number, and the crew that pulls up knows the exact trailer it is setting.

A real bathroom inside

China toilets with foot flush, stainless sinks with running water, framed mirrors, soft lighting and a door that locks. Each trailer passes a 120-point inspection before it leaves the yard, and our fleet stays young, with units three years old or newer. Guests stop thinking about porta potties the moment they step inside.

Planned for heat and fire weather

Air conditioning keeps the interior comfortable at a September fair in the valley, and onboard tanks keep the restroom working when a power shutoff hits during Santa Ana winds. We plan water, pumping and power around the season before the trailer ever leaves the yard.

Statewide coverage

Where we set restroom trailers across California, region by region

We cover California from the Oregon line to the Mexican border, not just the big metro areas. Each region below has its own access limits, weather and type of event. Send us the address and the date, and we will route the right trailer from the closest yard.

The Bay Area and Silicon Valley

San Jose, Sunnyvale, Fremont, Hayward, Oakland and San Francisco keep our Bay Area trailers busy with corporate campus events, backyard weddings and a long summer calendar. Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara hosts stadium concerts every summer, and the Sunnyvale Art and Wine Festival closes the downtown core for a full weekend. Hillside streets in the East Bay are steep and narrow, and PG&E power shutoffs have reached the eastern hills, so we check grade, parking and power before we pick a trailer length. Our page on restroom trailer rentals in San Jose covers South Bay sites in detail.

Sonoma, Napa and the North Bay

Wine country runs on outdoor events. Vineyard weddings, harvest parties and winery events fill the calendar from spring through the fall crush, and the Sonoma County Fair in Santa Rosa has run since 1936. Estate properties rarely have enough restrooms for a full guest list, and most of the lawns sit far from any sewer line. Our trailers run on onboard water there, with pumping set to the event schedule. For Sonoma County details, see luxury restroom trailers in Santa Rosa.

Sacramento and the Sierra foothills

Sacramento, Elk Grove, Roseville and the Placer County suburbs mix state government events, school graduations and fast growing new neighborhoods. The Placer County Fair runs four days each June, Roseville closes Vernon Street for Tuesday night street fairs through June and July, and foothill wineries host estate weddings nearly every weekend. Delta farm crews and ranch properties south of Elk Grove call for self-contained units that run far from town water. Planning near the capital? Read about bathroom trailer rentals in Sacramento.

The Central Valley, from Stockton to Bakersfield

Stockton, Modesto, Fresno and Bakersfield bring county fairs, farm events, packing house crews and summer heat. The Stanislaus County Fair fills a 72-acre fairgrounds in Turlock each July, and Modesto celebrates its car culture with the American Graffiti Festival and Car Show. Valley jobs lean hard on air conditioning, shade and water planning, and we time deliveries for the cooler morning hours whenever the site allows it. See restroom trailer rentals in Fresno for the southern valley.

The Central Coast and Salinas Valley

Salinas, Monterey and the farm towns of the Salinas Valley host the Salinas Valley Fair, coastal weddings and a large farm labor workforce. Ranch venues and coastal estates often sit on narrow private roads with soft shoulders, so we confirm access with photos before we commit to a trailer size. Cool, foggy mornings are common near the coast, which is where the heat side of each unit earns its keep. Our Salinas restroom trailer page covers Monterey County.

Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley

Greater Los Angeles is our busiest region for film and television shoots, studio events, estate weddings and big public gatherings. The Hollywood Bowl runs its summer season from roughly June through September, Dodger Stadium sends off the spring marathon, and the Rose Parade in Pasadena needs weeks of float building and seating setup before New Year's Day. The Palisades fire rebuild has also created a long wave of building permits in Pacific Palisades, and LA28 takes over SoFi Stadium in Inglewood for the Olympic Games starting February 1, 2028.

Orange County

Irvine, Anaheim, Santa Ana, Orange, Fullerton, Garden Grove and Huntington Beach host corporate events, garden weddings, school graduations and beach events. The OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa hosts the county fair and a full event calendar, and Great Park Live in Irvine added a 5,000-seat temporary amphitheater in 2024. Many Orange County homes and venues have tight side yards and short driveways, which is why the compact 2-Station and 3-Station units go out so often here. Details for the south county sit on our Irvine restroom trailer page.

The Inland Empire

Riverside, San Bernardino, Ontario, Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, Corona and Moreno Valley combine big warehouse and logistics construction with festival crowds and foothill weddings. Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino holds a 65,000-seat amphitheater, and the Ontario Arts Festival returns in October 2026 for its eighth year. Foothill sites bring wind and fire exposure, and Southern California Edison runs power shutoffs in high fire threat areas, so inland jobs get a power plan along with the trailer. For Riverside County work, see restroom trailer rentals in Riverside.

San Diego County

San Diego, Chula Vista, Oceanside and Escondido bring waterfront festivals, ranch weddings in the rural east county and a steady list of hotel and convention events. Oceanside hosts an Ironman swim start and harbor festivals, and the Oceanside International Film Festival has run since 2009. North County ranch roads are narrow and hilly, so we match trailer length to the driveway before loading. See bathroom trailer rentals in San Diego for the city and the bay.

The Antelope Valley and the high desert

Lancaster, Palmdale and Rosamond sit in the high desert north of Los Angeles, with summer afternoons that regularly pass 100 degrees. The Antelope Valley Fair draws more than 250,000 visitors, the California Poppy Festival returns to the AV Fair and Event Center April 17 to 19, 2026, and Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond runs race weekends on open desert. Desert jobs run self-contained, with water delivery and pumping planned on a fixed schedule. The desert side of the county is covered on our Lancaster restroom trailer page.

The fleet

Restroom trailer sizes we rent in California, from 2 to 9 stations

Seven luxury restroom trailers handle almost every California request, from a backyard birthday for 80 to a festival crowd in the thousands. The guest counts below assume an event of about four to five hours. For longer events, open bars or job sites, we size up rather than guess.

The 2-Station Restroom Trailer, available for rent across California

2-Station Restroom Trailer

A women's suite and a men's suite for up to about 150 guests. The short body slips into a driveway, a side yard or a hillside lot, which makes it a favorite for backyard receptions in Orange County and estate parties in the Bay Area hills.

The 3-Station Restroom Trailer, available for rent across California

3-Station Restroom Trailer

Two women's suites and one men's suite for up to about 225 guests. It fits the middle of the calendar well, from a quinceañera in the backyard to the overflow line at a golf tournament clubhouse.

The 5-Station Restroom Trailer, available for rent across California

5-Station Restroom Trailer

Three women's stalls and two sinks on one side, with a stall, a urinal and a sink on the men's side. It serves 150 to 450 guests with 200 gallons of fresh water and a 520 gallon waste tank, and it is the unit most California wedding receptions book.

The 8-Station Private Stall Deluxe Restroom Trailer, available for rent across California

8-Station Private Stall Deluxe Restroom Trailer

Eight private unisex rooms, each with a toilet, a urinal and a sink, for 400 to 600 guests. Every room opens straight to the outside, so lines move quickly at corporate events and company dinners, and no guest shares a stall wall with a stranger.

The 9-Station Restroom Trailer, available for rent across California

9-Station Restroom Trailer

Five women's stalls and two sinks, plus two stalls, two urinals and a sink for the men, sized for 400 to 900 guests. Two heat and air units and a 750 gallon waste tank carry it through a long festival day in valley heat.

The ADA + 2 Restroom Trailer, available for rent across California

ADA + 2 Restroom Trailer

A women's suite, a men's suite and an accessible unisex suite with its own ramp. It serves events up to about 200 guests or job sites up to about 30 workers, with 210 gallons of fresh water on board for sites with no hookup.

The ADA + 6 Restroom Trailer, available for rent across California

ADA + 6 Restroom Trailer

Seven stations in one trailer: four for men, two for women and an accessible unisex room with a built-in ramp, designed to federal accessibility standards. It covers events and job sites up to about 300 people when access is part of the plan.

Not sure which size fits your day? Send us the guest count, the hours and whether the bar will be open, and we will size it for you. We would rather send the right trailer than a bigger one you do not need.

Sizing guide

How to size a restroom trailer for a California event or job site

Guest count sets the starting point, and the length of the event, the drinks and the heat move it up or down. These are the rules of thumb we use when we plan a California booking with you.

Backyard parties and small receptions

Up to about 150 guests over four or five hours fits a 2-Station trailer. Its short footprint suits the tight lots common in Los Angeles and Orange County neighborhoods, and a single 20 amp outlet usually powers it.

Weddings from 150 to 250 guests

The 3-Station trailer handles the lower end, and the 5-Station covers the rest with room to spare. If the reception runs past midnight or the bar stays open all night, we move up one size so the line never reaches the dance floor.

Large receptions and corporate days

From about 250 to 450 guests, the 5-Station is the workhorse. Corporate events that want private rooms book the 8-Station Private Stall unit, which keeps lines short and gives every guest a room with its own door.

Festivals, fairs and big public crowds

Crowds of 400 and up call for the 9-Station trailer or several units spread across the grounds. Los Angeles County event guidance plans around one portable toilet per 50 attendees for an event of about four hours, with one hand washing sink for every four toilets, and we use that as a floor when we plan a public event.

Construction and job sites

Cal/OSHA rules under 8 CCR 3364 call for at least one toilet for every 20 employees of each sex, kept clean and generally within 200 feet of where the crew works. We size a job site trailer by crew count, shifts and pumping schedule, then keep it on a service route for as long as the project runs.

Planning for accessibility

When single-user units are grouped together, federal accessibility standards call for at least 5 percent of them to be wheelchair accessible. Our ADA + 2 and ADA + 6 trailers put an accessible room with its own ramp inside the same luxury unit, so every guest uses the same kind of restroom.

Where they work

Weddings, film sets and job sites: how California uses our restroom trailers

Most California bookings fall into six kinds of work. Each one brings its own demands for size, placement, water, power and service.

Weddings and estate events

California weddings love an outdoor setting, and the best outdoor settings rarely have enough restrooms. Vineyards in Sonoma and Placer County, ranch venues in North County San Diego and hillside estates in Pasadena and the Santa Monica Mountains often have one or two small bathrooms for a guest list of 200 or more. We place a 5-Station or 8-Station Private Stall trailer near the reception, dress it with plants when you ask, and keep it stocked through the last dance.

Film, television and corporate production

Southern California production schedules run long and move fast. Stages, backlots and location shoots need clean restrooms for cast, crew and clients, often inside a building or on a city street with a permit window. Our trailers set up quietly, run on onboard tanks when a hookup is out of reach, and move on the production's call sheet schedule.

Festivals, fairs and concerts

County fairs, street fairs, art and wine festivals and summer concert series fill the California calendar from April through October. For large crowds we place several units in a row so lines split across them, add accessible units, and schedule pumping between peak sessions so no trailer fills up in the middle of the day.

Construction, logistics and infrastructure

Warehouse projects across the Inland Empire, campus and hospital builds in the Bay Area and fire rebuilds on the Westside all need restrooms that meet Cal/OSHA rules for months at a time. A clean, air conditioned trailer with running water and real sinks helps a contractor keep good crews on a long summer job, and it covers the washing facilities that Title 8 section 1527 requires.

Emergency and fire season response

Wildfire evacuations, power shutoffs, water main breaks and flood recovery can leave shelters, staging areas and whole buildings without working restrooms. Our 24/7 line takes emergency orders, our trailers run on their own tanks without grid power, and the accessible units help relief sites serve everyone who walks in.

Long-term and facility rentals

Remodels at schools, restaurants, offices and churches can shut down permanent restrooms for weeks or months. We set a trailer next to the building, match the service schedule to the hours the site is open, and keep it running until the new bathrooms are ready.

Heat and fire season plan

Heat, fire weather and power shutoffs: how we plan California restroom trailers around them

Heat is the everyday planning question in most of California. Valley towns and the high desert see triple digit afternoons through the summer. Every one of our trailers runs air conditioning on a thermostat, and we point the doors and the unit away from direct afternoon sun whenever the site allows it. On summer jobs we also plan water delivery around peak use, because a hot crowd uses more water at the sinks than a cool one.

Heat rules also shape job sites. Cal/OSHA Title 8 section 3395 requires shade for outdoor workers once the temperature reaches 80 degrees, with high heat procedures at 95 degrees and drinking water of about one quart per worker per hour. Section 3396, the indoor heat rule, took effect July 23, 2024. A restroom trailer with working air conditioning and cold running water is not a heat plan on its own, and it does make a contractor’s heat plan easier for crews to live with.

Fall brings fire weather. Santa Ana wind season runs roughly from October through February, often peaking in December, and red flag days bring high wind, low humidity and dry brush. Southern California Edison shuts off power inside high fire threat areas when conditions turn dangerous, PG&E runs its own shutoffs in Northern California, and Edison has said 2026 shutoffs could come more often, last longer and reach more customers than before. We treat a shutoff as a normal planning condition, not an emergency.

In practice, that means we never assume shore power on a fire season job. Every trailer carries its own fresh water and waste tanks, so the restroom keeps working while the grid is down, and we plan a quiet generator setup when the site sits in a shutoff zone. On red flag days we also look at wind exposure, siting and anchoring before we set the unit, and we adjust delivery windows around road closures and evacuation orders.

How it works

How booking a California restroom trailer works

1. Call or request a quote

Tell us the date, the address, the guest count and the hours. We answer the phone 24/7, and most quotes go out the same day.

2. We size it and check the site

We match the trailer to your crowd, then look at access, ground, slope, power and water. For a tight driveway or a hillside site we ask for photos before we commit to a spot.

3. Delivery and setup

Our crew delivers, levels the trailer, connects power and water where they exist, and stocks it with paper, soap, towels and fragrance. Most setups finish well before guests arrive.

4. Service and pickup

For multi-day events and job sites we schedule restocking and pumping on a set rhythm. When the event ends, we pull the trailer and leave the site the way we found it.

Before delivery day

Permits, health rules and placement in California

A trailer on private property usually needs no permit of its own. Events on public land are a different story. Most California cities run a special event permit process for parks, streets and city lots, and some ask for a long lead time. Pasadena, for example, wants applications for events in the public right of way or in city parks at least six months before the date. If the trailer will sit on a street or in a park, we suggest calling the city early and asking what the event permit needs for restrooms.

County health departments oversee temporary events that serve food. Los Angeles County event guidance makes the organizer, not the food vendors, responsible for enough public toilets on site, and it asks for one hand washing sink for every four toilets plus accessible units of at least 5 percent of the total. A luxury trailer with running water and hand sinks inside every room makes that checklist easy to meet, and it gives the inspector one clean unit to walk through instead of a row of plastic boxes.

Accessibility follows two sets of rules in California: the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design and Chapter 11B of the California Building Code. Accessible stalls need a clear turning space, a wide door and hardware that works without tight grasping or twisting. Our accessible units carry a built-in ramp and handrails, and we place them on level ground with a clear, firm path from the event.

Job sites answer to Cal/OSHA. Section 3364 sets toilet counts by crew size, section 1526 covers toilets on construction sites and section 1527 covers washing facilities. We handle all pumping and waste hauling ourselves and take everything to approved disposal facilities, so you never have to find a hauler or worry about where the waste goes.

Sites that already have restrooms often add ADA shower trailer rentals across California as the job grows.

Questions

Questions California hosts ask about renting a restroom trailer

How far ahead should I book a restroom trailer in California?

Book as soon as you have a date. Spring and fall wedding weekends, graduation season, summer fair season and the weeks before the holidays fill up first. We also take short notice orders when a unit is free, same-day delivery is often possible from our California yards, and our 24/7 line handles emergencies.

Which trailer do I need for a 250 guest wedding?

For about 250 guests over four to five hours, the 5-Station Restroom Trailer is the usual pick. If the bar stays open all night or the reception runs long, move up to the 8-Station Private Stall or the 9-Station unit so the line stays short.

Will the trailer work during a power shutoff?

Yes. Every trailer carries its own fresh water and waste tanks, so the toilets and sinks keep working when the grid goes down. Lights and air conditioning need power, so for sites in a PG&E or Southern California Edison shutoff zone we plan a quiet generator setup with you ahead of time.

What if my venue has no water or sewer hookup?

That is fine. We fill the fresh water tank before delivery, pump the waste tank on a schedule and haul everything away. Vineyards, ranches, beaches and desert sites run this way all the time.

Does the trailer need electricity?

Yes. A standard 20 amp, 120 volt circuit within about 100 feet runs most units, and the larger trailers use two circuits. If there is no outlet on site, we plan a generator for you.

Do you serve rural California and the mountains?

Yes. We deliver statewide, from the North Coast and the Sierra foothills to the Central Valley, the high desert and San Diego's backcountry, and we serve customers nationwide. Remote sites run fully self-contained with water delivery and pumping on a fixed schedule.

Can you handle a film shoot or production schedule?

Yes. We work to the call sheet, set up inside stages or on permitted streets, and move units between locations when the schedule changes. Tell us the load-in window and the crew count, and we will plan the rest.

Do your trailers meet Cal/OSHA rules for a job site?

Our trailers give contractors real toilets, running water and hand washing sinks, which covers the facilities that Title 8 sections 3364, 1526 and 1527 call for. We size the number of units by crew count and keep them clean on a set service schedule.

Do you offer accessible restroom trailers?

Yes. The ADA + 2 and ADA + 6 trailers each include an accessible unisex room with a built-in ramp and handrails. For public events we help you plan the number of accessible units the permit or health department asks for.

Who am I dealing with when I book?

You deal with The Lavatory directly.
